AGREEMENT WITH THE LORD
Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth
as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my
Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 18:19 AV)
From
this text, it is clear that there is great power in agreement among God’s
people. The most perfect agreement that shall ever be is that between the three
persons of the Trinity of God. And it is His desire that we enter in as one
with Him to agree with the Spirit of Truth, which is the Holy Ghost. That is
why to blaspheme the Holy Ghost is unforgivable, because it is disagreement
with the indwelling presence of God. It is God’s will and desire that He abide
in man by His Spirit, and if man refuses there is no hope for him until he
repents. If having known the Spirit of God, one were to reject Him by
blasphemy there would remain no hope for that person’s salvation. If we are at
one with God, as is His desire, see what power there would be in our agreement
with Him, even our salvation!
If any two of us who agree with the abiding
presence of God, the Holy Ghost, should ask anything on earth it shall be given
them from God, the Father. That’s
what Mt. 18:19 says, and if we will believe it and begin to apply it to our
ministry, we would be amazed at what could be accomplished for the Lord here on
earth.
The problem seems to be that we have not
been taught such deep things of God’s word, but rather skip over them because
it might not work, and we would be embarrassed . What that sort of faith
represents is DOUBT. When doubt enters, power leaves. Remember Peter when
doubt seized him?
But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the
wind was contrary. And in the fourth
watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on
the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for
fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto
them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if
it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship,
he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to
sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said
unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the
wind ceased. (Matthew 14:24-32 AV)
The
agreement Peter made with the Lord was broken when he doubted. We have the same
privilege as Peter, because the Lord abides with us and desires us to agree
with Him. Abide in me, and I in
you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the
vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. (John 15:4 AV)
If two of us have power, how much more power we have as we
agree with the indwelling Christ. Let’s preach this and believe it for the
Kingdom’s sake and God’s glory.
