HEAR JESUS ONLY!!

It is altogether important that we hear the Lord and not one another. Too often we take what is preached as just another man’s viewpoint, when really the true Gospel preacher is laying down Jesus’ Word to us. Where does this word originate from? Is it some good rule or idea we might pass over as part of a lecture? Let’s see what the source of the preachments might and should be.

Christ’s Apostles who walked with Him and ministered under Him are those whose Gospels and Epistles we have as our source in matters of salvation and the promises of God, together with warnings of Hell and hopes of Heaven. The following texts will show us that we MUST listen to this Word, for they bring us the “sure word of prophecy” from God by His Spirit of prophesy.  Here Peter encourages his scattered flock to pay heed to what he has to say, and to remember it.

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

Peter goes on to say that what he is teaching is not some made up story, but rather the account of what glory  and power the Apostles had seen with their own eyes.

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Not only had they witnessed this glorious event visually, but they also heard the voice of God who identified our Lord as His well pleasing, beloved Son.

For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”.   And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

So, in as much as God has confirmed Jesus with His great testimony of glory, power, and honor, it is imperative that these Apostles carry Christ’s prophetic message faithfully into all the world, as he had said.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

We also understand that the Word of God is not something that can be arranged to suit man’s whims, but are strictly ordered by the Holy Ghost of God.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:13-21 AV)

The wonderful revelation in this account of Peter refers to the transfiguration of our Lord on the mount where were the Apostles Peter, James and John, chosen of the Lord to be witnesses of this wonder.

The account follows here:

And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. (Matthew 17:1-9 AV)

No matter how great the prophet of God, no matter how eloquent a pastor or evangelist, we must HEAR ONLY JESUS; no matter who is the “father” of a denomination, or the theologian of a great Bible version, or the renowned author of some great commentary, we must HEAR ONLY JESUS. It is a matter of life and death.

Why is it a life and death matter? Because there is no man other than Jesus whom we can trust to believe who can assure us that we have salvation, or that can convince us that we have been anointed, because we have said this prayer, or spoken these words, or have joined this, or that fellowship. We must HEAR JESUS ONLY. Only Jesus has the words of life; only Jesus can forgive our sins; only in Jesus have we power over Satan; only Jesus can send the Holy Ghost to dwell in us; only Jesus can heal our bodies, our souls, our minds. We must HEAR JESUS ONLY!!

How can we HEAR JESUS ONLY? We must shut out all the world, take up the faithful Bible version and get alone with Jesus; let Him speak through His Word, as He convicts, as He instructs, as He assures, as He cleanses and lifts our souls, as He seeks our sanctification of spirit for His purposes, as He invites us to ask, seek and knock. Then as we are given to Him personally in this sincere manner of prayer and seeking, if we repent of our sin, He will forgive us and make us new creatures, born of God for service in His Kingdom.

Having come to Him, and having HEARD HIM ONLY, we are equipped with the truth of God, and are able to know the truth that makes us free; free from the tugs and pulls of religious persons who wish to add our names and labors to their program of building spiritual towers for self acclaim; free from the temptations of the enemy, Satan, who would steal your joy and crown; free to practice the faith without fear of man or devil; free from all the accusations of those who will tell you that you are not His child because you do not behave as they dictate; free to minister just as the Spirit of God leads you as you HEAR JESUS ONLY!!

The Way, the Truth, and the Life is Jesus’ identification of Himself. If we are in Him and He in us, we will walk in these things as we HEAR JESUS ONLY!!
